Day 175 - A Gift is...

"A gift costs the giver something real. It might be cash (enough that we feel the pinch) but more likely it involves a sacrifice or a risk or an emotional exposure. A true gift is a heartfelt connection, something that changes both the giver and the recipient."
~Seth Godin~

Working in God's Garage is a gift I give to myself
It's on my list of "Top 5 Happy Places"

In the area of gift giving, I am an epic fail. All these years I've been smug in my belief that I was an epic gift giver. I would get you EXACTLY what you asked for. When you failed to give me an item to hunt I was lost so I would not allow that to happen. I would start hounding you for "suggestions" weeks before the event and I would not stop till I had what "I" would determine as an acceptable suggestion. Then, I would take an hour, go to the exact isle, in the exact store where I KNOW it will be, spend 5 minutes skimming through cards to find one "close enough" to what I want, buy it, then wait for you to tell me how wonderful I was.

Then Ms. Amy sent me an email and burst my little "I'm so great" bubble.

What I give are presents and not gifts. I think, from this point forward, I'm going to give less of my husbands money, and more of myself. More frames lovingly chosen, more photos hand picked and printed, more photos taken with others in mind. More hand written notes, more hand made blankets, just more.... I was given a gift it's time for me to give back.

My birthday was yesterday. I received 3 very special gifts. A DVD, an email to help me appreciate it, and the 2 people who gifted them. My birthday rocked.

Peace ~

Today I'm grateful for:

the gift of perspective.

the gift of an email randomly sent and a whisper that told me to save it for later.

God whispers. Sometimes the way things line up completely freaks me out.

posters. They turned out better than I thought they would. Even if the printer messed them up and the need to be redone *sighs*

attitude adjusters & non-chemical mood elevators. Today's were brought to me by: "I love you" texts from my favorite human, a Ms. Amy email, Snapfish customer Service, the magic of Google, and some interesting timing on the part of God.

Jalapeño Pringles. What? Don't judge me...

left over salad. It was not very good so it kept me from eating too much. Unfortunately it could not keep me from stuffing my hand in the Pringles can *sighs*

water. Water is the miracle cure. It will wash away all the onion straws, chicken wings, birthday cake and Jalapeño Pringles. Right?

no rejection notice from the publisher. I'm choosing to see this as a good thing. They've had my manuscript since April. Sent in with a fully paid, self addressed, return envelope. Yes, I'm going to see this as a good thing. I mean, I got a personal email from the guy. He'd at least send me a rejection letter and not leave a girl hangin. Yes, no rejection letter is a good sign *sticks head back in the sand*

"The Lord of the Bean" made even more splendid by how hard the man searched for it. An epic movie full of puns and Elvis impersonators and cookie loving sporks. This was a great gift. Oh, and the theme of the movie? "You are given a gift what are you going to do with it?" Seriously dude, the way God gets my attention is absolutely astounding. I know, I know, he's God, he can do anything. It still gets me...
