Day 175 - A Gift is...

"A gift costs the giver something real. It might be cash (enough that we feel the pinch) but more likely it involves a sacrifice or a risk or an emotional exposure. A true gift is a heartfelt connection, something that changes both the giver and the recipient."
~Seth Godin~

Working in God's Garage is a gift I give to myself
It's on my list of "Top 5 Happy Places"

In the area of gift giving, I am an epic fail. All these years I've been smug in my belief that I was an epic gift giver. I would get you EXACTLY what you asked for. When you failed to give me an item to hunt I was lost so I would not allow that to happen. I would start hounding you for "suggestions" weeks before the event and I would not stop till I had what "I" would determine as an acceptable suggestion. Then, I would take an hour, go to the exact isle, in the exact store where I KNOW it will be, spend 5 minutes skimming through cards to find one "close enough" to what I want, buy it, then wait for you to tell me how wonderful I was.

Then Ms. Amy sent me an email and burst my little "I'm so great" bubble.

What I give are presents and not gifts. I think, from this point forward, I'm going to give less of my husbands money, and more of myself. More frames lovingly chosen, more photos hand picked and printed, more photos taken with others in mind. More hand written notes, more hand made blankets, just more.... I was given a gift it's time for me to give back.

My birthday was yesterday. I received 3 very special gifts. A DVD, an email to help me appreciate it, and the 2 people who gifted them. My birthday rocked.

Peace ~

Today I'm grateful for:
