Day 89 - Respect

“The Roots of Violence: Wealth without work, Pleasure without conscience, Knowledge without character, Commerce without morality, Science without humanity, Worship without sacrifice, Politics without principles”
~Mahatma Gandhi~

Today I'm grateful for:

Mahatma Gandhi. His existence proved it could happen. We, as a species are capable of producing that quality of human. I shudder to think what he would think of the world today.

Matthew 5. It proves Gandhi was right & Jesus was a Socialist. You don't have to believe in God to know it's just the right way to live and to me, it proves the existence of Karma. Those who hate in the name of God would do well to read this over and over and over and over again.

giving up my political affiliation. I am no longer a liberal I am a human. I acknowledging my humanity and state for the record; Yes, I AM responsible for my fellow humans. This is how I will live my life and how I will cast my vote.

the ability to serve my fellow humans. I don't do enough, I take way to much pride in what I do and I look down on those who do not. This is NOT the way Jesus wants me to be so...I'll be grateful for the first part, and I'll strive to change the rest.

being a hippie socialist. I follow in the shadow of the big JC. I strive to live the way HE tells me to live.

sticking my head in the sand. I'm going to pretend to be an ostrich. I will no longer watch Fox News, CNN, CSPAN, Network News or any other faux news. It is no longer reporting on what I need to know but pushing their own agenda. I'll just keep my head in the sand and enjoy my slice of paradise till some jackass sells it to China.

having respect. Respect for mankind, respect for the Earth, respect for my God. You can mark the decline of this world to the era when we ceased to respect.

gilding the lily. First, it's a way cool phrase. 2nd, when spun correctly, it can be positive. "My attitude of gratitude has gilded the lily of my life." translation: "Being grateful has added another layer of joy to an already joy filled existence." I like that much better than "dressing it up and over exaggerating to give a false impression"

a great morning. Even if the hastier pooped on the treadmill....AGAIN. I got in a full 30 minute work-out, I look cute in my rockin khakis, orange golf shirt and spiffy black sandals, and I got to listen to Andy Stanley call me the salt of the earth. THAT'S a great morning. Minus the hamster poo of course.

I'm so tired of hearing "my money" "get your hands off my money" "that's not my problem. If they weren’t so lazy they'd have insurance, a home, a job, food." Tell me if you would, where “love thy neighbor” went? Lost is all sense of community and the greater good. We have lost our humanity. We lost it way before the economic crash, before President Obama, record unemployment, Katrina and 9/11. We have become desensitized to the need and want of those we can’t see. When TV brings you face to face with the pain of the Haitian people, God love you, you break out your checkbook and you help. Then you sit back and say “See! I do help! I don’t need the government to MAKE me help!” and in the same breath you say “I don’t care if the nameless and faceless die due to lack of medical care, food or shelter. They’re all just lazy moochers anyway” I’m tired of it! Shame on us all! Shame on those who say it and shame on those who tolerate it being said.

I'm tired of the lack of respect for our government. Death threats? Booing the president? I mean come on! I hated Bush with a passion I normally reserve for snakes and cockroaches and I was not alone. BUT he was my president and the members of the opposing party may have made fun of him behind his back, but on the floor of the House and Senate, I NEVER remember him being booed. I also remember hearing from Republicans "Hate the man, respect the office!" yet now that the tide has turned, there is an all new low to the depths of disrespect. Republican, Democrat, Liberal, Independent are just different labels on the same animal. From here out, I vote human.

I am a member of the human race. Respect that and step off...
